A little about me
I’m Miranda - a Londoner, designer and history buff who never grew out of cartoons. If I’m not designing or doodling I’m thinking about football as, unfortunately, my weekends are won or lost by the results of a team in red and white.
Journey to UX
I started out with a history degree, I loved thinking about how we got here and researching the causes of things. After university, I stumbled into digital marketing and copywriting, but found myself drawn back to art and visual design—teaching myself the Adobe suite lead to more creative work and eventually user interface design. It felt like puzzle solving and art combined. I loved the direct impact of it. Designing real products that solved users' problems. I sought out further training in UX to learn key user-centred design methods (and rekindling the joy of research).
I've since built on my experiences with time at a fast-paced FinTech start-up, that has given me confidence in my ability to tackle complex problems on systems that manage millions of dollars. I'm now looking to help build products with real user value and social impact.
How I work
Teamwork
I like to work in collaborative environments where I can tap into others expertise and work together to solve problems. Good ideas and inspiration come from everywhere, you can't design well in isolation.
Adapt
I've worked in fast-paced, and fast-changing, environments where there's not always resources for the ideal process. Design with a clear outcome in mind, utilise the right tool to get the work done and keep learning. Be open to new techniques, software and strategies.
Advocate
Processes might adapt but I always work to the same principles. Advocate for the user. What's their ultimate goal? How do we make it easy for them to achieve it? Delivering user value is critical for the long term success of a product.
Software
Here’s what I’ve used so far in life - if there’s something new, give me a couple of evenings and a YouTube tutorial. I’m on it.
